Process involvement

There are many reasons to hire a process specialist. Typically, projects that benefit most from an experienced process specialist fall into three main areas:

  • New processes: Implementing a new production process is a complicated matter. Alba assists in making sure that the process foundation is solid. We strive to continuously expand our knowledge of the latest technological advances, to provide cutting-edge advice on optimal and sustainable solutions. We provide support throughout the entire process, from the early design phases to handover and production start-up.
  • Process optimisation: When optimizing a process, we always keep three things in mind: efficiency, consistency, and quality. Alba’s systematic and analytical approach ensures that we improve and increase productivity while reducing waste in existing processes. We aim to create more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and holistic solutions.
  • Process adaptation: Refurbishing equipment to cGMP or reapplying it to new processes is not only economical but often also the most sustainable solution. At Alba we understand that implementing new processes can be costly, thus we strive to utilize existing equipment whenever possible.

Case study:

A large biopharmaceutical company in Germany needed to increase production capacity with 50% in one of its facilities. A bulk intermediate was produced for a client, but increased demand led to internal debates about the company’s capacity expansion possibilities.

Alba Project Group was asked to assess how the facility with its current layout and equipment could be upgraded to meet future demands.

Three experienced process engineers facilitated a two-day workshop with stakeholders from the client. The entire process, equipment, utilities and dependencies were mapped out in a structured and systematic way. Based on the findings, we prepared a comprehensive analysis and a final report outlining the options and necessary steps to be taken. Everything from investments in equipment, facility changes, shift operations, and utility capacity calculations were included.

The customer now has a complete manual and a plan for proceeding, including clear guidance, recommendations, and estimates regarding the schedule, risks, and economic impact.
